For the first time on Spanish television, Terapia Abierta will open the doors to real therapy sessions, following highly experienced experts in the field as they support individuals working through personal challenges and everyday situations. Filmed under carefully supervised conditions and with rigorous clinical and ethical protocols, the format offers an authentic and emotionally powerful exploration of mental health, featuring real stories from contributors navigating issues such anxiety, grief, trauma, relationships and personal growth.
Created by Twenty Twenty, a WBITVP company, and originally broadcast on BBC One in the UK, Inside Therapy was also adapted by France 2 in 2025, which included a suite of additional social content for viewers to explore and engage in their own conversation about mental health. Both the UK and France received positive critical and audience responses for their honest and compassionate portrayal of therapy and mental wellbeing, reducing the stigma that can be associated with mental health.
Terapia Abierta too has educational awareness-raising and social purpose at its core, helping to normalise conversations around therapy and emotional wellbeing. The series will place strong emphasis on empathy, trust and emotional authenticity, creating a safe environment in which participants can openly explore their experiences alongside qualified clinical psychologists.
Andrew Zein, EVP Creative Format Development and Sales at WBITVP, said: “The demand for mental health treatment is growing globally, and we are proud that Inside Therapy continues to open the door for more people to understand and experience what happens in therapy sessions: the format is explicitly designed to give viewers maximum access with minimum interference for participants in these real conversations. We are delighted that RTVE has become the third broadcaster to embrace the importance of making this kind of content available today through our own WBITVP Spain and we know that Spanish audiences will resonate with this series when it airs later this year.”
